What is Berbere Spice?
It is a basic spice blend used in and around Ethiopia. This mixture, in which sweet and hot red peppers are in a good balance, is enriched with ginger and coriander. Unlike other spices, Berbere contains 6 different aromatic spices such as cardamom, fenugreek, cinnamon and nutmeg. Berbere, which has a very deep flavor in this respect, is used in a traditional dish called Wats stew in Ethiopia.
It is suitable for meat, fish, chicken, legumes and vegetables. Adding Arab and Indian influences to dishes, Berbere has become a spice used all over the world over time.
